Diggins Leads 6 US Skiers into the Heats at FIS XC Sprints FR in Davos – No Canadians Advance

December 15, 2013 (Davos, Switzerland) – The USA’s Jessie Diggins charged into 6th place in the women’s Sprint qualifications this morning in great conditions with Sophie Caldwell just behind in 9th as six Americans made the grade to move on to the heats. Kikkan Randall was 10th with Sadie Bjornsen in 18th as Holly Brooks just missed out in 33rd. Ida Sargent was next in 41st followed by Canadians Dasha Gaiazova in 42st and Chandra Crawford in 43rd with Rosie Brennan in 61st. Germany’s Denise Herrmann was the top qualifier in 2:59.24.

In the men’s qualifications Andy Newell placed 12th with teammate Simi Hamilton in 21st as Canada’s Alex Harvey was 45th, Torin Koos (USA) was 56th, Len Valjas (CAN) was 61st, fellow Canucks Devon Kershaw skied to 69th with Jesse Cockney in 82nd, and Mike Sinnot (USA) was 85th. Finland’s Martti Jylhae was the surprise top qualifier in 2:32.19.
