Düsseldorf Sprint World Cup Celebrates 10th anniversary

December 01, 2011 – After the busy days in the north of Europe, the teams and especially the sprint specialists, are heading towards the German metropolis of Düsseldorf on the River Rhine for the 10th edition of the sprint World Cup weekend there.

The famous city sprint has attracted around 150,000 to 250,000 spectators year after year and will be staged on 3rd-4th December this year.

The set-up for the World Cup is already well underway. The snow, around 4.000 cubic meters for the 830 m long loop, has again been produced in the Ski Hall in Neuss, just outside the city of Düsseldorf. About 150 athletes from 16 nations are expected to take part in the free technique sprint on Saturday, 3rd December, and in the free technique team sprint on Sunday, 4th December 2011.

Among the entered athletes is the winner from last year Emil Joensson (SWE), who will race his first World Cup weekend this season, as well as Kikkan Randall (USA) and Vesna Fabjan (SLO) who were on the podium in last year’s ladies competition.

Fire, ice and a unique atmosphere: For the tenth anniversary of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup presented by Viessmann in Dusseldorf, the social program will seek to meet the highest demands, offering particularly family-friendly entertainment and abundant music along the World Cup course.

August Pollen, head of the organizing committee, stated: “10 years of World Cup events in Dusseldorf: it will be a great festival with entertainment for everybody!” Come and visit us in Düsseldorf!
