November 14, 2009 (Canmore, AB) – Sports enthusiasts will be able to start the New Year with fitness and wellness in mind on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Athletic Evolution Fitness Centre located in Canmore, Alberta as Fast and Female presented by Best Buy hosts its first-ever New Year’s Fitness Marathon. Open to adults aged 18 and over, this inaugural event will feature morning and afternoon circuit training, spinning, dancing and yoga sessions paired with inspirational talks on the topics of goal setting and New Year’s resolutions.

As a souvenir from their fun-filled day, all participants will take home a Fast and Female reusable bag with goodies supplied by event sponsors. All proceeds from the full-day event will go directly to support Fast and Female’s growing programming dedicated to the empowerment through sport of young female athletes, specifically in the sports of cross-country skiing and biathlon. This winter alone, the dynamic organization founded by Chandra Crawford – the 2006 Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing – will host a record number of seven events in seven different Canadian provinces and territories. Stops will include Labrador West (Newfoundland & Labrador), Canmore (Alberta), Québec (Québec), Hardwood (Ontario), Yellowknife (NWT), Lake François (British Columbia), and the Annual Ski Festival being held in Whitehorse (Yukon).

”Individual donations and sponsorships are integral to the long-term sustainability of our organization – especially given the fact that we are committed to keeping our youth events free,” said Marie-Hélène Thibeault, Executive Director for Fast and Female. ”Fun fundraising events such as our upcoming New Year’s Fitness Marathon are a great way for us to convey our core values of health and wellness while also increasing the awareness about Fast and Female with parents in the Canmore region.”

To participate in this exclusive event, participants must make a $55 tax deductible donation and choose whether they wish to be entered in the morning or afternoon fitness session.
