Fire Destroys Historic Nakkertok Ski Club Building

March 13, 2012 (Val-des-Monts, Quebec) – Nakkertok Nordic Ski Club, the largest cross-country ski club in Canada, with over 1,400 members, suffered a devastating fire on Friday night that destroyed a historic clubhouse building at its Nakkertok North property near Val-des-Monts, Quebec.

According to a report in The Ottawa Citizen, club members found the charred remains of the 40-year-old hand-built structure, named Ostrumhus, on Saturday morning. While the exact cause of the blaze is unknown, the presence of ATV tracks (banned on the property) and beer bottles littering the site suggest that it may have been set, either deliberately or inadvertently, by a group of trespassers and vandals who visited the site on Friday night and damaged another smaller cabin.

The fire did not affect the club’s Nakkertok South location, which includes several other buildings and is used to host major races. For the full story in the The Ottawa Citizen click HERE.
