FIS Athletes’ Commission Encourages Athletes to Play an Active Role in WADA Code Review

release by FIS

July 02, 2012 – With the second Consultation Phase being underway since the beginning of June, athletes are encouraged to make recommendations before the 10th October 2012 deadline.

“We are fully committed to the fight against doping and would like to encourage athletes of our sports to provide direct feedback to the WADA Code. In the end, athletes will be most affected by the Code, so it is a great opportunity to address central needs in its development”, said FIS Athletes’ Commission Chairman Kilian Albrecht.

As FIS Newsflash reported in May 2012, the Code is currently undergoing a two-year review which will culminate in a new version being approved at the World Conference on Doping in Sport in November 2013.

To facilitate the process, WADA has created WADAConnect to make online recommendations possible by directly referencing the article of concern.

On a whole, there are three Consultation Phases, with the third running from 1st December to 1st March 2013. Although the next version of the Code will be approved in November 2013, it will not come into force until 1st January 2015.

In its commitment to fight against doping, FIS last season launched the awareness campaign “Clean as Snow” with the support of the Athletes’ Commission throughout all FIS Olympic disciplines. The campaign has received wide-spread support by athletes to fight for doping-free sport.
