FIS Congress – 2010/11 World Cup Calendar Approved

June 02, 2010 (Antalya, Turkey) – The FIS Council approved today the 2010/11 calendar of the FIS World Cup Season. Seventeen organizing committees will host World Cup events next season. After a year break the World Cup will kick off in Gällivare, Sweden on November 20-21. The opening racing weekend will provide 10/15 km Free and 4×5/4×10 km Relay events. Right after Gällivare the  World Cup will move round the corner to Kuusamo, Finland. For the first time Kuusamo will host a three-day event as part of the Nordic opening. Düsseldorf and Davos found a spot on the World Cup Calendar and will not be missing next season. La Clusaz in France will end the pre-Christmas World Cup period.

Tour de Ski 2011
Eight races in ten days concept will be followed in next year’s edition of Tour de Ski. What will be different from previous years (except the edition no 1) is that Tour will take place in two countries only. Germany and Italy. Similar to last year, Tour de Ski will kick off in Oberhof on December 31 with a Prologue Free and will continue on New Year’s Day with 10 and 15 km Classic handicap start race. Then the Tour de SKi circus will move to Oberstdorf for two days. After four days in Germany cross-country world will go down to Italy having a rest day on January 4, 2011. Tour will continue same as last year in Cortina/Toblach and Val di Fiemme where we will see the grande finale on Alpe Cermis on Sunday, January 9, 2011.
Liberec back in Calendar

Liberec is Back
After a two years break since Nordic World Champs 2009 Liberec found its way back in the FIS World Cup Cross-Country calendar. It will host a sprint weekend right after Tour de Ski. On Saturday, January 15 Sprint Free is on schedule. Following day Team Sprint Classic is on the program.
World Cup Final 2011

World Cup final concept which takes place in Sweden is kept for next season as well. After a city sprint in Stockholm, World Cup Final will continue in Falun with a three days event.
