March 20, 2010 ( Switzerland) – Last Sunday Dario Cologna of Switzerland won the 42nd Engadin Skimarathon, the 42km freestyle event on the FIS Marathon Cup schedule. US skiers Andrew Johnson and Marshall Greene placed 30th and 33rd respectively just over a minute behind the winners while Zach Simons did not start. Susanne Nystrom of Sweden won the women’s race over Swiss skiers Seraina Mischol and Selina Gasparin.

The gold medalist in the Olympic 15km, Cologna was fighting a sinus infection, but was still able to fight through the fresh snow to win the race for the 2nd time in his career. “I had good legs” he said. “And I never ceased to hear my name and encouragement (along the course). It is an honor to give the joy of this win to my country.” Sweden’s Daniel Tynell was second and Christophe Perillat of France was third.

The Worldloppet continues this weekend in Norway with the 54km Birkebeinerrennet, one of the oldest and most challenging races in the Worldloppet series with 15,000 participants registered.
