March 6, 2009 (Lahti, Finland) – The USA’s Bill Demong has followed up on his World Championship gold medal in Liberec with another World Cup win Friday in Lahti, Finland. Demong started 19 seconds back from World Cup leader Anssi Koivuranta of Finland after placing 6th in the jumping round.
After the first 3km of the 10km race Demong had moved through bib 3, 4 and 5 to sit in the lead group with Koivuranta and France’s Jason Lamy Chappuis – a silver medalist in Liberec – eventually bursting away from them around the 8.5km mark to cruise easily to his 4th World Cup win of the season in a time of 26:10.8. Koivuranta held on for second place 7.2 seconds back followed by Lamy Chappuis in third 11.5 seconds from the winning time.
The Norwegian star Magnus Moan started with bib 20, over one minute and thirty seconds back from the leader to finish in 4th just 20 seconds from third place. Two-time World Champion Todd Lodwick did not compete today. Wesley Savill, again the lone Canadian was 51st. He was 50th after the jumping round. Bryan Fletcher (USA) was 40th, Eric Camerota (USA) 47th, and Johnny Spillane (USA) 52nd.
