FIS XC Season Gets Underway with Pre-World Cup Competitions

November 19, 2014 – The FIS Cross-Country World Cup 2014/15 presented by Viessmann starts next week in Ruka (FIN) but the Cross-Country Skiing season already started last weekend with the first competitions of the Eastern Europe Cup 2015 taking place in Vershina Tea (RUS). FIS competitions in Olos (FIN) took place from 14th-16th November and the Finnish Cup was staged in Vuokatti already on 8th -9th November.

Most of the national teams will spend the last days before the first World Cups in Scandinavia and the competition schedule is fully packed for the last weekend before the FIS Cross-Country World Cup opener.

Saariselkä (FIN) will host classic sprints and free technique distance competitions this weekend. Gällivare (SWE) where the Czech and Canadian national teams are holding their final training camps is hosting classic sprint and distance competitions this weekend. Bruskvallarna (SWE) is where the Swedish national team traditionally holds a three-day competition. The Norwegian national opening is the last weekend before the World Cup opener and takes place in Beitostølen. Also in Russia the Cross-Country season is in a full swing and continues in Syktyvkar from 21st – 25th November.
