March 8, 2009 (Lahti, Finland) – Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk (Pol) topped the podium on Sunday in the women’s 10km skate at the XC World Cup in Lahti and is second overall in the standings behind Petra Majdic (Slo) who finished 19th. Charlotte Kalla (Swe) took second with Norway’s Marthe Kristoffersen in 3rd. The USA’s Liz Stephen placed 49th just ahead of Canada’s Daria Gaiazova in 51st while Morgan Arritola (USA) did not start.
Alexander Legkov (Rus) won the men’s 15km race over World Cup series distance leader Pietro Piller Cottrer (Ita) in second with Austria’s Christian Hoffman in 3rd. Canada’s Ivan Babikov in 37th lead the North American contingent. Dario Cologna (Sui) continues to lead the men’s overall series.
