FIS XC World Cup Oslo 1.2/1.5km Sprints – Randall 2nd, Newell 10th

March 14, 2010   (Oslo, Norway) – The USA’s Kikkan Randall scored her best result of the

season landing on the podium in second place in a photo finish behind Norway’s Marit Bjoergen in the women’s 1.2km Sprint in Oslo on Sunday. After qualifying in 8th Randall tied for first in her 1/4 final heat advancing to the finals to take second overall with Natalia Korsteleva (RUS) in third. Canada’s Daria Gaiazova (37th) and Caitlin Compton (USA) in 61st did not advance.

In the men’s 1.5km race Andy Newell made it to the semis to finish 10th overall. Top qualifier Anders Gloeersen (NOR) won with Russian speed king Alexey Petukhov in second and  Marcus Hellner (SWE) in third.  Simeon Hamilton (USA) in 34th, Stefan Kuhn (Can) 63rd, Mike Hinckley (USA) 66th and Brian Gregg (USA) in 73rd, did not qualify.
