October 24, 2011 (Auburn, NH) – Fischer Skis, the world’s leading cross country ski manufacturer, today announced it has processed a double-digit increase in pre-season sales of its Nordic ski products as cross country skiing experiences a surge in popularity across the nation. Compared to the 2010-2011 season, the company’s pre-season orders were up more than 20%. There are now more than 4.5 million cross country skiers in the United States.

“We are seeing tremendous growth in the popularity of cross country skiing, not just in Nordic sales, but in consumer and dealer interest at events throughout the country,” said Peter Ashley, vice president of the Fischer Skis U.S. Nordic Division. “Consumers are making a lifestyle shift based on several factors. Cross country skiing is family friendly, delivers a total body workout, is a relatively inexpensive sport to enter, and is an easy and exhilarating way to enjoy the winter close to home. In today’s challenging economic times, people are turning to cross country skiing as a means of all-around entertainment.”
