Five New Elected Members To CODA’s Board

October 12, 2006 – Calgary-Retired Olympic women’s hockey star, Cassie Campbell, and former Canadian Paralympic Committee President, Patrick Jarvis, were among five new directors elected to CODA’s Board at the national sport body’s 2006 Annual General Meeting in Calgary on Wednesday evening.

Campbell, who becomes the second Olympic gold medallist on CODA’s Board of Directors, joining Catriona Le May Doan who was elected in 2005, twice captained Canada’s women’s hockey team to Olympic gold. Jarvis is an accomplished Paralympian, who is also a member of the International Paralympic Committee Governing Body, and sits on the Board of Directors for Vancouver 2010.

Calgary and Alberta-based business leaders, Lesley Conway, Scott Hutcheson and Jane Savidant also join Campbell and Jarvis on CODA’s 2006-07 Board.

CODA also announced in front of national stakeholders during its annual reception Wednesday that Colin MacDonald was elected as the new Chair for the not-for-profit organization.

“The new directors add tremendous depth to CODA’s Board as we pursue the renewal of our Olympic facilities, and the development of Canada’s first Centre of Sport Excellence,” said MacDonald, a partner with national law firm – Borden Ladner Gervais LLP – who takes over from Gene Durand as the 16th Chair in CODA’s history. “We have added world-calibre expertise in sport, project development, construction and communications in support of Canada’s goal to become the world-leading winter sport country in 2010. It promises to be an exciting two years.”

MacDonald, who was CODA’s Vice-Chair since 2004, will lead the Board for the next two years in his new position. Gordon Ritchie, Vice-Chairman of RBC Capital Markets, was elected Vice-Chair.

“CODA has significantly strengthened its team that will ultimately help the organization deliver what Canadian athletes need to win gold medals,” said Bob Nicolay, president and chief executive officer, CODA. “These proven business leaders, Alberta residents, and accomplished athletes will bring a number of key perspectives to the table. We know they will represent the interests of all sport bodies, and CODA partners, to help lead our athletes to the Olympic and Paralympic podium in 2010.”

The 2006-07 CODA Board of Directors consists of the following business leaders: Lloyd Bentz; Don Buchignani; Cassie Campbell; Ron Casey; Lesley Conway; Catriona Le May Doan; Gene Durand; Jonathan Gebert; Martin Gifford; Scott Hutcheson; Patrick Jarvis; John Langille; Colin MacDonald; Trevor Nakka; Bob Nicolay; Rob Paradis; Gordon Ritchie; Jane Savidant; Stephen Sibold; and Shelley Shea.
