Former Finnish XC Team Coach Names Dopers, Denies Own Involvement

June 20, 2013 – During the perjury trial of Finnish former competitive cross-country skiers Janne Immonen, Harri Kirvesniemi, and Jari Isometsä on Tuesday, former head coach of the Finnish National Ski Team, Kari-Pekka Kyrö, testified that he became aware of doping on the squad as early as 1993, according to the website yle.fi.

Kyrö, who was lower-ranked coach at the time period in question, singled out then-head-coach, Pekka Vähäsöyrinki, as the instigator of the use of doping on the team. Kyrö denies offering EPO to the athletes.
