Four Hills Tournee #4 – Ahonen Wins Finale and Clinches 5th Title

by skitrax.com

January 7, 2008 (Bischofshofen, Austria) – Finland’s Janne Ahonen won his second ski jumping competition in just over 24 hours Sunday night to become the first person to win five Four Hill Tournees. High winds Friday forced relocation of the meet in Innsbruck to Bischofshofen, which is the traditional final meet of every tournee.

Ahonen won Saturday’s event and then laid down the longest jump of the day – 136 metres – on the final round to clinch the win. He had 251.6 points. Anders Bardal of Norway, the first-round leader with a jump of 132.5 metres, sputtered on his final jump, going just 124.5m. That gave him 243.6 points…and second place. Thomas Morgenstern, Austria’s World Cup leader, finished third (242.7 points). No North Americans competed.
