Frodahl and Bjørgen Win Kirkebakken Grand Prix Sprint

August 24, 2010 (Hamar, Norway) – Local skier Magnus Frodahl and Norwegian national team member Marit Bjoergen took the wins in the Kirkebakken Grand Prix Sprint in Hamar, Norway on Friday.

Frodahl also posted a new course record (0:21:54) as he edged out Johan Edin (SWE). Petter Northug was 3rd after winning the bronze medal sprint heat. The Kirkebakken Grand Prix featured 3 Northug brothers on the start line as Petter Northug was joined by younger siblings Thomas (18) and Even (15). “This marks the first time all three are racing the same event” said father and manager John Northug to langrenn.com. Tomas Northug finished 5th and Even 19th.

The expected final duel between Marcus Hellner (SWE) did not come true as the Swedish star finished 14th.

Marit Bjørgen won the women’s race and also posted a new course record (0:25:79), beating 16-year-old local racer Oda Hovelstuen Blystad by a solid margin. Britt Thorshaug Granrud finished third. Therese Johaug took fifth place.
