Garrott Kuzzy Report – CXC Team Training Camp

August 12, 2008 (Marquette, MI) – Greetings from Marquette, MI. I’m training here at the US Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University with the CXC Team. We’re going into our second week of the two-week camp. This is our second year at this camp and Marquette is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to train. Living right down the street from Lake Superior keeps the weather cool and makes for a great place for a post-workout dip. We eat in the dining hall where we can eat as much great food as we can handle. That’s a big plus in my book.

Our schedule this week has revolved around watching the Olympics. We get CBC as well as NBC here in the dorms and I’m a big fan of the CBC coverage for their variety and perspective. Seeing ads with Chandra Crawford and Beckie Scott certainly help the motivation as well!

My favorite (or should I say, favourite?) workout this week was definitely an over-distance run at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We ran there last year too and I’ve been looking forward to the run all summer. It’s a relatively flat, sandy trail on white sandstone cliffs overlooking Lake Superior. The views of the lake are spectacular from start to finish. The highlight for me is swimming in the lake afterwards. Last year we lucked out getting huge waves to play in after the workout. I watched the forecast all week hoping the waves would be as big this year and I’ve got to say, the Lake Superior did not disappoint! Enjoy the pics.

That’s all from da U.P. – eh?
