January 13, 2012 (Gatineau, QC) – The Organizing Committee of the 34th Gatineau Loppet unveiled details of the next edition of the biggest cross-country ski event in Canada. January is the month for great resolutions such as getting in shape or setting new personal goals.

Taking part in the Gatineau Loppet from February 17 to 19 might be just the ticket for you. Whether you are looking to stay healthy, improve your cross-country skiing or beat your own record on the Gatineau Park trails, the Loppet offers everyone the opportunity for a personal challenge with 5, 10, 16, 31 and 51 km races.

And what better incentive than the chance to mix with the world’s elite during the event? There’s even something for the kids with the Mini 2 km Sport Échange Outaouais. So sign up now: you still have five weeks to get ready for this big cross-country ski party.

“I invite skiers from across the region to try the Gatineau Loppet challenge in February. This is an excellent opportunity to surpass your personal best by taking part in an international event right here in our own backyard. The world’s ski elite will be there. Let’s provide a good turnout to cheer them on along the trails and at the Gatineau Loppet finish line,” urged Gatineau Loppet President Yan Michaud.

A distinguished visitor
Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, a passionate skier who has taken part in several Worldloppet events, will be in the Outaouais in February for the Gatineau Loppet 51 km classic. The Embassy of Estonia will mark the event with a souvenir for every child who participates in the Mini Sport Échange Outaouais.

An international event in our backyard!
The Gatineau Loppet, managed by Groupe Simoncic for the last two years, is the biggest cross-country ski event in Canada, with close to 2,500 skiers of every age and level sharing the trails through Gatineau Park. Gatineau’s École secondaire Mont-Bleu will be the venue for the departure/arrival area, as well as for the after-ski bistro and a Ski Show where visitors can mix business and pleasure.

The Gatineau Loppet is the only Canadian race of the Worldloppet Circuit, which hosts 15 races around the world. While most of the skiers are from the Outaouais area and Canada, many come from abroad, mainly the United States, but also France, Finland, Germany, Russia and Japan.
