March 02, 2011 (Oslo, Norway) – In a stunning display of sprinting prowess Alex Harvey and Devon Kershaw made history bringing Canada its first ever GOLD medal at the Nordic World Championships. Harvey won the final sprint leg over Norway’s Ola Vigen Hattestad in the men’s Team Sprint classic (6×1.5km) with Nikita Kriukov claiming the bronze for Russia.
Harvey and Kershaw teamed up to deliver the crowning performance at the Holmenkollen stadium on Wednesday – it’s Canada’s second Nordic Worlds medal ever as Sara Renner won individual classic sprint bronze in Obertsdorf, Germany in 2005.
Alex, the son of the legendary Pierre Harvey, is now a double world champion recently winnig U23 World Championships gold in the men’s 30km Pursuit . The US team of Andy Newell and Torin Koos finished 10th.
