Gravel Pit Threatens Future of Mono Nordic

by skitrax.com
September 5, 2009 (Mono, Ont) – The future of the Mono Nordic Ski Club remains in limbo as the town council of Mono weighs the benefits of expanding a local gravel pit – that would wipe out a substantial amount of the small clubs trail network – or outsource the required gravel and save the trails. In it’s 24-year history the club has seen the likes of Olympians Al Pilcher and Ron Howden, and National team member Lisa Patterson make their way around the red, yellow and blue trails – all members of the club at one time. Additionally the club site has been home to the Orangeville District Secondary School team one of the provinces most successful high school programs. “It’s difficult to put a value on 24-years of recreation, maintained by a non-profit club run by volunteers,” says club member Jeff Ells. “The whole thing seems very short sighted on behalf of the town.”
