Great Glen Trails’ SKIFABS Program for Women begins Jan. 27

Great Glen.logoJanuary 15, 2014 (Pinkham Notch, NH) – SKIFABS is back! This weekly ski class for women only emphasizes instruction and camaraderie at Great Glen Trails in Pinkham Notch.  The dates for this year’s series are Mondays, January 27, February 3, 10, & 24 2014 (No class on February 17, 2014). Two levels of sport focus are offered, the “Performance” Group and the “Recreation” Group.  Meeting times are 9:30 to 10:30 am for the former, and 11:00 am to noon for the latter.  Ski prep assistance for each day’s session is offered from 9 to 9:30 am.

SKIFABS is open to women ages 16 – adult. Attendees can join for the complete four week program, or pick and choose individual week offerings.  Both the Performance and Recreation group are led by Great Glen’s Ski School Director and Olympian, Sue Wemyss. Participants should have some prior cross country skiing experience, have an interest in learning and improving, and have the desire to be part of a fun and supportive group.

“Skifabs is a fun way to get outside; improve and expand upon one’s cross country ski skills; meet and enjoy the company of other women with similar interests,” say Wemyss. “It’s always a really nice group of women who come to take part.”

The Performance Group is geared toward those who are already solid in their basic cross country skiing skills, and are looking to make technical improvements for more efficiency and/or faster speed.

Performance Schedule
– Week 1: Poling technique; (classic equipment recommended);
– Week 2: Improving Diagonal Stride;
– Week 3: Skating V1;
– Week 4: Skating V2 & V2 Alternate.

The Recreation Group also receives instruction, working on basic skills and becoming more comfortable in varying terrain.

Recreation Schedule
– Week 1: Downhills are Fun!
– Week 2: Shifting weight & Gliding;
– Week 3: Herringbone (gliding or not) & the marathon skate;
– Week 4: Skating V1.

First time and very novice skiers are encouraged to check into the Great Glen Ski School offerings, which include both group and private lessons.

Cost: Four-week program: $79
Single sessions: $25
Price includes a trail pass for the day at Great Glen.
Pricing for season pass holders: $69
Single sessions: $20
