November 04, 2010 (Banff, AB) – Last night in front of a buzzing audience at the Radical Reels screening – a popular program of the Banff Mountain Film Festival – Cross Country Canada Junior Team member Heidi Widmer was named Mountain Idol.

Receiving the Mountain Idol title includes a cash award and a selection of prizes from the project sponsors. Heidi expressed genuine thanks for the award and beamed with pride in front of an audience that included some of Canada’s top cross country ski names such as Perianne Jones and Stefan Kuhn.

Mountain Idols are individuals who excel in their mountain sport (alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, climbing, trail running, biking, paragliding, adventure racing, etc.), are elevating the positioning of their sport in the Bow Valley’s community, exemplify the outdoor lifestyle, are valued role models and/or mentors, and are, in general, valuable members of the Bow Valley outdoor community. Successful candidates will be males or females under 26 years of age who currently reside in the geographic area between Lake Louise and Exshaw.
