International Biathlon Union Provisionally Suspends Nine Kazakh Biathletes

November 22, 2018 – The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has notified the Kazakh Biathlon Union that nine members of the Kazakhstan biathlon team are provisionally suspended, according to Article 7.9 in connection with Article 7.11. of the IBU Anti-Doping Rules.

In order to guarantee fair competitions that are not affected by the substantial risk of doping sanctions, the following members of the Kazakhstan Biathlon team are provisionally suspended from participating in any IBU-sanctioned competitions with immediate effect, pending the final decision of a hearing into the alleged Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs):

– Galina Vishnevskaya
– Alina Raikova
– Darya Klimina-Ussanova
– Olga Poltoranina
– Yan Savitsky
– Maxim Braun
– Anna Kistanova
– Anton Pantov
– Vassiliy Potkorytov

The review and provisional suspensions are based on criminal investigations in Austria and Italy. The provisionally suspended athletes are now given the chance to provide the IBU with an adequate explanation of the alleged ADRV. The IBU will then decide on what further proceedings are taken.
