Italy’s Di Santo Disqualified at Masters World Cup for Breach of Anti-Doping Ban

March 11, 2011 (Sovereign Lake, BC) – Results at the Sparkling Hill Masters World Cup are being shifted as a result of a breach of an anti-doping ban that has been brought to the attention of the Jury. As of 9:40am today Biagio Di Santo (ITA) has been disqualified from the Sparkling Hill Masters World Cup due to a prior doping infraction and the resulting ban that apparently he breached.

Di Santo was on the podium on days two and three at the Masters World Cup. SkiTrax reported Di Santo with the fastest time in the men’s 10km classic in the M01 (30-34) category on March 8, Day 3 of the event – read more here.

He placed third in race two and participated in race six. Di Santo’s disqualification will also effect his team, as he was in the second leg of the Italian team relay M01 which came in second. The team will also be disqualified from the race if the decision is upheld.

According to FIS, Di Santo’s ban requires that he not start any competition from January 3 to April 30, 2011. The Italian team is disputing these rulings – more on this breaking story to follow.
