Jerome 10th & Tanaka 11th as Takanashi Takes 5th Win at Women’s Ski Jumping WCup Debut in Sapporo

January 11, 2014 (Sapporo, Japan) – The USA’s Jessica Jerome placed 10th while Canada’s Atsuko Tanaka was 11th as Japan’s Sara Takanashi took home her fifth win this season with 254.5 points and jumps of 99m and 94.5m as the World Cup made its first stop in Sapporo. Second place went to Carina Vogt (GER) with 240.7 points and Irina Avvakumova (RUS) finished third with 224.1 points.

Jerome followed up on her Olympic Trials win from two weeks ago with jumps of 90.0 and 87.5 meters in Sapporo for 211.5 points while Tanaka’s jumps were 87.0 and 88.0 meters for 210.5 points.

“Today was all over the place in terms of conditions,” Jerome said. “I was able to have much better jumps than training and qualification, and was one of the girls with more stable wind. I am satisfied with today and hope to build on it for Sunday.”

Sapporo was the site of the 1972 Olympic Winter Games.
