Job Offer – Sport BC

release by SIRC

January 15, 2008 – Sport BC is seeking to fill the position of VP, Marketing and Business Development. The deadline for application is February 15 and the starting date is April 1, 2008.

Job Description: Sport BC is non-profit society founded in 1966. The members include over 80 provincial sport and sport-related organizations, representing over 840,000 British Columbians as athletes, coaches, officials, sport management volunteers and staff. In its capacity as a key leader in sport in British Columbia, Sport BC strongly believes that sport builds strong, healthy communities.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this newly-created position spearheads the Society’s overall business development activities. In addition to driving the identification and development of new commercial business opportunities for Sport BC, the Vice President is responsible for all corporate functions in the areas of business development and event product development, including marketing, communications and media, sponsorship and events management. The Vice President also oversees the management and continued development of the British Columbia Chapter of KidSport Canada.

As the ideal candidate, you are a dynamic, proven self-starter, with an outstanding track record in business development, preferably with experience as a leader of a start-up function within an organization. You will understand the inputs necessary in business growth and have a thorough understanding of front-end business functions (marketing, communications, sales, branding, customer service). You bring strong people and organizational leadership skills and have demonstrated your abilities as a motivator, coach and mentor of people. Experience in sponsorship sales and fulfillment would be an advantage. You are able to spot value and associated business opportunity and have the management skills to plan, resource and manage business development in a clear way that aligns with the broader goals and objectives of an organization. Previous experience in the sports industry is not necessary, but a passion for sport and the value it brings to the broader community is.
