Job Description: Director – Coach and Athlete Development Cross Country Canada (CCC)

Cross Country Canada (CCC), the National Sport Organization for cross-country skiing in Canada, is currently seeking to fill the position of Director of Coach and Athlete Development (DCAD). This position is responsible for implementing CCC’s Coach and Athlete Development Program and facilitating progress towards CCC’s long term objectives in this program area.

The DCAD is a full-time position that will be located in Canmore, Alberta at Cross Country Canada’s head office at the Canmore Nordic Centre. This position reports directly to the Executive Director for Cross Country Canada.

Cross Country Canada would like to fill this position as of Nov 1st 2006.

General Responsibilities. This director position is responsible for implementing CCC’s athlete development and coach development initiatives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

– Support the programs and initiatives of CCC’s Coach and Athlete Development Committee, as embodied in the NCCP, to promote the establishment of a common and consistently applied coaching philosophy and doctrine. · Ensure the successful implementation of coach and athlete development programs and activities that are consistent with CCC’s LTAD model. · Support the operations of CCC divisions in the area of coach and athlete development. · Supervise two staff positions that provide support to these program areas.

Required Qualifications:

– Excellent understanding of the Coaching Association of Canada’s new competency-based NCCP system. · Excellent understanding of the Canadian Long Term Athlete Development Guide (Sport for Life). · Expertise in sport program implementation. · Excellent management/leadership skills with respect to planning, organizing, supervising staff, and finances. · Excellent software skills including the use of word processing, spreadsheets, online database management, and a desktop publishing tool such as PageMaker · Experience with website management, updating content and posting of new information. · Post-secondary education in the field of Physical Education, Kinesiology, or Education. or equivalent experience. · NCCP trained/certified cross-country ski coach or equivalent experience is highly desirable. · Ability to produce polished communication in written and oral form in English (essential) and French (desirable). · Ability to work as a team player in a volunteer-based organization. · Willingness to work overtime and weekends in the peak periods.

Salary range for this position is between $48,000 and $60,000, plus benefits, depending on qualifications and experience.

Cross Country Canada Director of Coach and Athlete Development Job Description (revised Sept. 06)

1. Position Title. Director of Coach and Athlete Development (DCAD). 2. Reporting Structure. The DCAD reports and is responsible and accountable directly to the Executive Director. In addition, the DCAD is responsive to and provides staff support to the Chairperson of the Coach and Athlete Development Committee (CADC).

3. General Scope of Responsibilities. The DCAD is responsible for implementing the Coach and Athlete Development (CAD) program, and facilitating progress towards annual and long term CAD objectives.

4. Specific Responsibilities. The specific responsibilities of the DCAD shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

a. Planning, Budgeting and Reporting. Supporting the CAD Committee in developing plans, budgets, grant submissions and reports. Specific duties include:

1) support the development of annual operational plans for the CAD area of responsibility; 2) contribute to the overall CCC strategic planning process; 3) support the development and monitoring of the CAD budget, including detailed accounting of revenues and expenses using timely reporting procedures; 4) support the preparation of timely grant submissions and related reporting requirements for external funding of CAD programs; 5) support the preparation of semi-annual CCC Management Committee Reports, CCC AGM Report, financial reports and other reports as required; 6) contribute to CAD program reviews; b. Supervising CAD Staff and Contract Work. Oversee CAD staff and provide the coordination and monitoring of contract work for the CAD program area, currently this includes: 1) Athlete Development Coordinator (ADC); 2) Coaching Development Coordinator (CCD); 3) Project Contractors for resource development of sport specific NCCP materials for AWAD, LTAD Model plus any layout and design work for CAD publications;

c. CCC Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTADM). Support the CAD Committee and its relevant sub-committee(s) in the development and maintenance of an effective model in accordance with Sport Canada’s general LTAD framework “Sport for Life”

1) ensure the CCC LTAD model is the cornerstone of all CAD program development;

2) support the CCC Executive Director, CAD Committee, and other Operational Committees in ensuring the implementation of the CCC LTAD model ensuring consistency in all program areas and at all organizational levels of CCC (national, provincial/territorial and local);

3) monitor the status of the implementation of the LTADM within CCC overall, and provide feedback and reports, as appropriate, to the CADC Chair;

d. Coach Development.

1) support the CAD Committee, its sub committees and project teams in the development and updating of coach development programs and materials;

2) be accountable for maintaining a high standard of implementation of CCC’s sport specific components based on reviews by the Coaching Assoc. of Canada’s consultants. Provide feedback and reports of these reviews to the CADC Chair;

3) Provide input to the assignment of coaches to available professional development opportunities and programs within your capacity as a member of CCC’s High Performance Committee.

e. Athlete Development.

1) support the CAD Committee, its sub committees and project teams in the development and updating of athlete development programs and materials; 2) monitor the status of CCC’s athlete development programs and athlete development overall within CCC, and provide feedback and reports, as appropriate, to the CADC Chair; 3) prepare the athlete ranking for PetroCanada Athlete Awards;

f. Other.

1) CCC web site: a. update specified pages of the CCC web-site on a regular basis; b. develop and post CAD knowledge resources and timely information; 2) policies and procedures: a. contribute to the development of CAD program policies; b. monitor the implementation of CAD program policies;

g. Cross-Functional Duties. 1) Support the attainment of CAD Committee objectives by providing input and perspectives to the relevant tasks of other CCC Operational Committees (High Performance, Events, Marketing, Women on Skis and Clubs and Membership)

2) Develop and maintain productive working relationships with the external agencies who are implicated in coach and athlete development programs, currently they are: the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), Sport Canada, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES).

5. General Expectations. The DCAD is expected to:

a. prioritize tasks and strive to achieve high standards in terms of quality and timeliness of all work products;

b. contribute to the creation and projection of a CCC image characterized by inclusiveness, integrity, reliability, respect, courtesy, openness and commitment to excellence;

c. ensure that all activities are closely coordinated with those of other staff and the Operational Committees, so that a seamless and productive team environment is created.

Job Description: Coach Development Coordinator Cross Country Canada (CCC)

Cross Country Canada (CCC), the National Sport Organization for cross-country skiing in Canada, is currently seeking a new employee to fill the position of Coach Development Coordinator (CDC). This administrative position is designed to support CCC’s coach development system up to the international level.

Coach development is fundamental to CCC’s ability to improve the capacity and productivity of the various components of the sport system that facilitate athlete development.

The CDC is a full-time position that will be located in Canmore, Alberta at Cross Country Canada’s head office at the Canmore Nordic Centre. This position reports directly to the Director for Coach and Athlete Development (DCAD) for Cross Country Canada.

General Responsibilities. These include but are not limited to the following:

· Maintain a primary orientation towards supporting quality coach education and professional development opportunities for all stages of coach development. · Support the programs and initiatives of CCC’s Coach and Athlete Development Committee, as embodied in the NCCP, to promote the establishment of a common and consistently applied coaching philosophy and doctrine. · Coordinate and/or implement coach development programs and activities that are consistent with CCC’s LTAD model. · Complement and support the operations of CCC divisions in the area of coach development.

Required Qualifications:

· Excellent understanding of the Coaching Association of Canada’s new competency-based NCCP system.

· Excellent organizational skills that facilitate accurate record keeping and tracking. This encompasses the need for excellent software skills using spreadsheets, databases and web-based data management tools.

· Ability to work in a multi-focussed environment and respond effectively to requests for support. · Ability to work as a team player in a volunteer-based organization.
· Post-secondary education in the field of Sport Administration or equivalent experience.

· NCCP trained/certified cross-country ski coach (desirable).

Cross Country Canada Coach Development Coordinator Job Description

1. Position Title. Coach Development Coordinator (CDC).

2. Reporting Structure. The CDC is responsible and accountable directly to the Director of Coach and Athlete Development (DCAD). In addition, the CDC provides staff support and is responsive to the Chairperson of the Coach and Athlete Development (CAD) Committee.

3. General Scope of Responsibilities. The CDC is responsible for administrative support for CCC’s coaching development system. The primary focus of this position will be the delivery of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

4. Specific Responsibilities. The specific responsibilities of the CDC shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

a. Coach Development. Supporting the CAD Committee, its relevant sub-committees, and project teams in developing and delivering programs. Specific duties include:

1) support the development and delivery of the new competency-based NCCP (ICC, CC, LTT Dryland, LTT On Snow, TTT Dryland, TTT On Snow, CCD, CCHP, etc): a. participant materials (Workbook & Reference Materials); b. Learning Facilitator materials (Facilitator’s Guide, multi-media aids) and training opportunities; c. collect, process, and file registration forms as appropriate; d. follow up on requests to assist with missing certification records, e. process applications for equivalency; f. ensure the (cross country skiing) coaching fields on the CAC databank are correct; g. distribute order forms, fill orders, ship materials, etc;

2) support the delivery of the former NCCP system (Levels 2, 3, 4/5): a. NCCP Level 3 program – process registration forms, coordinate evaluation/marking of Assignments, , keep accurate records; b. NCCP Level 4/5 program – support sport specific and generic courses as appropriate, facilitate sport specific practical assignments/tasks including the evaluation process, process paper work, process registration forms, keep accurate records; c. maintain an appropriate supply of materials, fill orders and ship materials; 3) support the development and delivery of High Performance Coaching Development Programs (ICE, Petro Canada Scholarship, NCI, etc): a. ICE program – implement as per policy document; advertise, coordinate the selection process, distribute and process ICE Assignment packages, post-Assignment follow-up, etc; b. Petro Canada Scholarship program – advertise, coordinate selection process, coordinate program experiences, process paper work, etc; c. NCI program – promote, facilitate sport specific training opportunities, process paper work, etc; d. assist with the scheduling and coordination of sport specific National High Performance Coaching Seminars, and other special coaching development courses as necessary;

4) assist project teams with the development of publications: a. assist with gathering resource information, artwork, photos; b. proof documents; c. coordinate arrangements with the publisher and track deliveries;

5) support program financial management: a. assist with grant applications and reports as needed (CAC grants, etc.); b. manage budgets for specific projects within area of responsibility; c. cross check orders and invoices for both clients (Divisions) and suppliers;

6) provide inventory control of coach development materials: a. manage stock in inventory (course materials, clothing, teaching aids, etc); b. provide periodic audits of materials and supplies within area of responsibility, including March 31 audit annually; c. re-order materials as appropriate; d. maintain master binders of all major resource manuals/documents that are published including a CD-ROM copy; e. maintain a comprehensive photo library of coaches in action;

7) support the maintenance of program area content on CCC’s web site;

8) provide program data for CAD reports;

9) promote the CAC/CCC Coaches Code of Conduct;

10) maintain up to date contact lists (master list of active LFs, Division Coaching Coordinators, etc.).

b. Club Development. Supporting the CAD Committee and its relevant sub-committees in promoting the establishment of full service clubs that can provide a progression of coach development opportunities up to the National Ski Team level. Specific duties include:

1) promote and encourage the development of effective full service cross-country ski clubs with paid coaching positions (full or part-time);

2) promote and encourage the vertical and horizontal integration of coach and athlete development at all stages of the CCC Long Term Athlete Development model;

3) promote and encourage club financial support for professional development opportunities for active club coaches at all levels.

5. General Expectations. The CDC is expected to:

a. prioritize tasks and strive to achieve high standards in terms of quality and timeliness of all work products;

b. contribute to the creation and projection of a CCC image characterized by inclusiveness, integrity, reliability, respect, courtesy, openness and commitment to excellence;

c. promote CCC’s Coaching Development Program philosophy, programs, and materials; and

d. establish strong and productive relationships with the Divisions, thereby improving communication and enhancing credibility and effectiveness.
