Canadian Paralympic CommitteeSeptember 02, 2014 – The Senior Coordinator, System Development & Education will play a key role in developing a world leading Paralympic sport system in Canada. This position will focus on increasing overall participation through the initial stages of the long-term athlete development (LTAD) model. The incumbent will strategize with CPC member sports and stakeholders to increase awareness of parasport opportunities, as well as ensuring persons with disabilities across Canada are provided with quality first contact experiences that lead to ongoing, sustainable participation. This role is essential in contributing to the CPC’s strategic priority of developing a sustainable, world leading Paralympic sport system in Canada.

Reports To: Manager, System Development & Education
Location: Ottawa

Primary Responsibilities
– Implement new and existing strategies, programs and initiatives with members, partners and government to increase participation in Paralympic sport with a focus on LTAD
– Contribute to the creation and establishment of Paralympic system development strategies and initiatives to increase awareness and participation in Paralympic sport
– Support the Manager, System Development & Education as well as member sports and stakeholders with awareness and first contact strategies and initiatives
– Lead the continued implementation of CPC’s Changing Minds, Changing Lives (CMCL) program
– Support the implementation and evaluation of the CPC granting process in partnership with the CPC System Excellence department, as well as overseeing grant applications for the early LTAD stages.
– Lead the design, implementation and review of the CPC’s Find a Sport online digital resource
– Lead the expansion of CPC’s Paralympic School Week and contribute to the development of opportunities for children with a disability to become active participants in sport
– Collaborate with all other departments to ensure that sport programs are aligned and integrated in their execution specific to Paralympic pathways
– Contribute to the creation of the CPC Development annual budget and monitor the budget of specific assigned programs and initiatives
– Support the Manager, System Development & Education in work related to the Paralympic Development Committee
– Liaise with the CPC Communications and Marketing team to establish and implement

Development communication plans linked to the portfolio of System Development and Education. Other ad hoc duties as required

Qualifications

Education
– Post-secondary education in the field of sports management, sports administration, human kinetics, physical education, or a combination of the above fields.
Knowledge and Skills
– Knowledge of sport development, long-term athlete development (LTAD) and its link to high performance (HP) programs
– Knowledge of the specific issues and barriers for people with disabilities to become active in sport and recreation
– Strong relationship and partnership building skills
– Working knowledge of the Canadian and/or the Paralympic sport, education and health care
systems, both federally and provincially

Expertise in one or more of the following:
– LTAD model and implementation
– Athlete and coach recruitment – Coaching, and/or
– Partnership engagement o Education
– Basic knowledge and skills in communications planning
– Strong business writing, presentation and verbal communication skills, preferably in both official
languages
– Strong computer skills

Experience
– Three to five(3-5) years’ experience working in sport system development (with an LTAD focus) and developing membership and partnership strategies and programs
– Experience as a participant, administrator, coach or official in the Canadian sport system, including but not limited to Paralympic sport
– Experience working with committees and volunteers
– Experience working with multiple stakeholders from the sport, education, recreation and health
sectors

Working Conditions
