December 07, 2010 (Calgary, AB) – The Canadian Sport Centre Calgary is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Research and Innovation Manager for the Nordic Consortium. The successful candidate will be aware of and able to assess the current landscape of equipment preparation for Nordic Sports at the elite level. From this assessment the R& I Manager will design, implement & integrate projects that will support Canadian Nordic athletes to attain podium performances at the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia. This position will build on previous knowledge and lessons learned through 2010 Top Secret initiatives and other research projects. This position requires sport specific knowledge of equipment preparation for elite athletes. The R&I Manager is able to communicate with people in a variety of positions – they can move from the wax room to the Boardroom effectively. They can successfully bring together people, technology and sport and apply their Nordic sport knowledge to advance Canadian athletes to continually sustain podium performances at the highest competition level.

Qualifications:
Education
– Undergraduate degree preferred

Work Experience
– 8 + years’ international Nordic sport specific experience (2 quadrennials)
– Must have in-depth experience with/as wax technician
– Must have experience in project management and leadership
– Experience with budgeting is required (overall and project specific)
– Experience with database (data entry and extraction) is preferred

Technical skills
– Nordic Sport Specific Acumen: Tactical
– Nordic Sport Specific Acumen: Equipment
– Ability to converse at scientific and performance level
– Computer proficient with Excel and Word
– Proficient with database management
– Able to operate/use all equipment in Ski Lab

Work Environment
– Position based in Canmore
– Travel required extensively throughout year
– Flexible work hours with requirement for evening and weekend dependent upon project requirement

– Critical Thinking – multidimensional thinker who is inquisitive and pushes for answers or new questions. They need to be able to think flexibly and piece together bits of information from different sources that may be gathered at different times and in different environments
– Project Management – Understand all phases of the project life cycle and lead team through all required processes. These include project initiation, planning, execution, transition and closure as well as understanding the controls that are required and how they may impact the project.
– Communication – Able to clearly and appropriately express information in a variety of forms and data and can adapt to audience (equipment technicians, ski manufacturers, coaches, athletes, work team, sport scientists, HP-D, OTP, CSC – Calgary). Actively listens and encourages others to share their ideas and information.
