May 6, 2008 – The Canadian Sport Centre Ontario (CSC Ontario) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Manager, Performance Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all athlete-specific services for nationally carded individual athletes that are registered with the CSC Ontario. Additionally, this position will be responsible for facilitating the integration of CSC Ontario’s Performance Services Division with targeted national and provincial sport organizations through the coordination of their IST/PEP services.

Organization
The Canadian Sport Centre Ontario (CSC Ontario) is the multi-sport organization facilitating high performance sport in Ontario, in partnership with National and Provincial Sport Organizations. The CSC Ontario supports high performance athletes and coaches in Ontario by providing an enhanced environment of services to help them achieve international podium results.

Program Description
Performance Services Division is responsible for facilitating the delivery of sport science and medicine services to coaches and athletes. This will be accomplished through several models, including:
– Integrated Support Teams (ISTs) for targeted national training groups (i.e., NSO’s);
– Performance Enhancement Programs (PEPs) for targeted provincial training groups (i.e., PSO’s);
– Athlete-specific services for nationally carded individual athletes.

Responsibilities
Athlete Services
– Manage all individual athlete-specific service related programs delivered by CSC Ontario.
– Manage CSC Ontario’s Service Providers Program delivered by CSC Ontario.
– Liaise with other CSCs, NSOs, PSOs, and Service Providers as required. Sport Specific Consultation
– Assists in the facilitation of the integration of targeted sports at the national and provincial levels with the CSC Ontario.
– Works with targeted sport athletes and coaches to assist them in development of a world class training environment in Ontario by ensuring access to sport science and medicine services (ISTs and PEPs).

Sport System Development
– Provides feedback to CSC Ontario regarding sport performance programming.
– Serves on the provincial task team for the Ontario Sport Review Panel.
– Assists in the collection of information from other provinces regarding innovative sport performance initiatives such as technical planning and programs.
– Assists in the reviews and recommendations of provincial sport system performance targets (i.e. percentage of Ontario athletes on National Teams).

Leadership & Management
– Facilitates information exchange between athletes, coaches and CSC Ontario performance services.
– Assists the Director, Sport Performance with the development of the annual work plan including establishing deliverables for the accountability framework.
– Prepares monthly activity reports based on assigned deliverables.

Position Links and Dimensions
– Reports directly to the VP Sport Performance and President & CEO.
– Works closely with PSOs, NSOs, athletes and coaches at all levels.
– Works with other staff and sport groups on projects as required.

Working Conditions / Special Requirements
– Requires a Class G Drivers license and some travel within Ontario.
– As the Canadian and Ontario high performance sport systems are in the process of some major changes in the delivery of Sport Performance programming and services, staff must be able to work in a highly dynamic and flexible client service environment.
– Required on occasion to work irregular hours and be on-call for emergencies for time sensitive and priority issues.

Selection Criteria
Education, Experience and Certification
– Related undergraduate/graduate degree and a minimum of five years experience major international, national, provincial competition environments.
– Demonstrated experience working in the Canadian sport system and/or other successful sport systems around the world.
– Demonstrated experience working with high performance athletes and coaches.

Demonstrated Technical Skills and Abilities
– Ability to analyze and resolve multivariable issues
– Ability to prepare and explain (verbal and in writing) information clearly and effectively to variety of audiences including ability to present effectively to senior management and board level audiences
– Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with all levels of staff, partners and stakeholders
– Ability to lead and facilitate inter-disciplinary teams;
– Ability to work effectively and positively as part of a provincial team;
– Ability to work in a fast paced environment and organize multiple concurrent projects with changing priorities and deadlines, emerging issues, while keeping the manager and colleagues informed

Knowledge
– Comprehensive knowledge of athlete and coach development.
– Working knowledge of annual planning, periodization and training.
– An understanding of and respect for, the roles, responsibilities and pressures of the Provincial and National Sport Organizations.
