November 13, 2011 (Bruksvallarna, SWE) – Although weather and snow conditions have played havoc with the early race schedule in Scandinavia, the season finally kicked off this weekend with freestyle races in Bruksvallarna, Sweden, on a loop of artificial snow. Following yesterday’s men’s race, it was the women’s turn this morning with a 10km event.
A total of 94 women from Scandinavia and Europe, as well as a handful of Canadians, took to the line in this interval start race. Home country favourite Charlotte Kalla took the
win over Russia’s Irina Khazova by an 18.3-second margin. Norway’s Hanna Brodin was third. Perianne Jones was the fastest Canadian in 20th and 1:14 off the pace. Chandra Crawford was 36th and Alysson Marshall skied to a 51st place finish.
