Marit Bjoergen Voted the Queen of Nordic Skiing

April 03, 2013 – After receiving the prestigious award in 2011, Norway’s cross-country ace, Marit Bjoergen, has again been elected Queen of Nordic Skiing of the 2012/13 season by the journalists of the Forum Nordicum. With 381 votes, she took the honour ahead of Austria’s Ski Jumping hero Gregor Schlierenzauer (296 votes) and Germany’s Nordic Combined star Eric Frenzel (249 votes).With Petter Northug (NOR), Justyna Kowalczyk (POL), Dario Cologna (SUI) and Therese Johaug (NOR), four additional cross-country athletes were elected in the top ten.

By celebrating a historic four golds and one silver medal at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme (ITA), Bjoergen claimed six additional victories and three second places throughout the 2012/13 FIS World Cup season.

In addition to the Queen or King of Nordic Skiing, the Forum Nordicum elected the best Biathlon athlete with Tora Berger, Bjoergen’s Norwegian fellow taking top spot ahead of Martin Fourcade (FRA) and Emil Hegle Svendsen (SWE).

   This Nordicum outfit—whatever there name denotes–computers treat this as a mis-spelled word had their heads somewhere where they don’t see the light!!
   How can you have a list like this and not have Kikkan Randall’s name on it—She wins the Womens Sprint Cup and is 3rd in the Overall cup.
   Legkov is 2nd in the Overall and 28th in the Sprint Cup, while Cologna is 3rd in the Overall and 15th in the Sprint Cup—it sure is a man’s world.
   Also, I love Johaug for her efforts—but 41st in the Sprint Cup—I think these guys are looking at something else when it comes to Therese.

   I hope this poll was done by mail—because, if it was at a gathering I’d want the water checked. Wake up—you guys are suppose to know what the hell is going on OVER THERE!
