November 5, 2009 – Yesterday we reported on a CTVolympic.ca article about Chandra Crawford working with her ski sponsor Fischer in Ramsau, Austria to try and resolve continued discomfort with her foot following her successful surgery for compartment syndrome earlier this year (click here). Marty Hall comments on this story…
I wish Chandra and Fischer the best of luck in resolving this problem, but in my experience to stop the tendon from rolling over the ankle bone will require surgery.
I’ve had two experiences over the years with skiers on both National teams with this same occurrence or injury, and we tried everything but both skiers ended up on the operating table.
The groove or notch the tendon rides in is too shallow and that is why the tendon can move or slide out and over the ankle bone. The surgery requires deepening the groove – that what was the corrective procedure as I remember.
