McKeever and Theriault Win New Zealand Continental Cup

release by New Zealand Nordic Sports Development
August 20, 2008 – Thrilling racing was to be seen on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday of last week, with competitors from Australia, Canada, Japan, France, Switzerland and of course New Zealand. NZ’s Nat Anglem skied very well in the B Final of the Sprint on Saturday as did Andrea Fancy skiing for New Zealand in the Women’s B Final.

Katie Calder was unable to take part on Saturday due to bronchitis but did extremely well on Sunday in the Freestyle, coming in 3rd behind Canada and Japan. Andrea gained 5th place, with Sam Bondarenko 11th and Anna Hogg 12th. Stiff competition came from the two Swiss girls but Katie beat them both off.

The Men’s Freestyle final was won by Robin McKeever of Canada (a regular Snow Farm visitor) by 7 hundreds of a second over Masaaki Kozu of Japan. Exciting racing to be sure! Once again Nat did very well, placing 12th in a field of experienced World Cup skiers.

Olympic bronze medalist Milaine Theriault (CAN) continued her success from Thursday’s Classic event, taking out first place in the women’s 5km Freestyle in a comfortable win over Sumiko Ishigaki (JPN). New Zealand’s Katherine Calder completed the women’s podium in third place. For more information click here.
