August 13, 2008 (Houghton, Mich) – Michigan Tech athletic director Suzanne Sanregret announced today that Jason Cork has been hired as an assistant coach for cross country, Nordic skiing and track and field.“We are excited to have Jason join our programs,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. “He is enthusiastic and hard working and our athletes will really enjoy working with him. Given Jason’s experience, I feel he can hit the ground running in his new position.”

Cork comes to Michigan Tech after serving as a club coach for the past five years, including the last four as head coach of the Durango (Colo.) Nordic Ski Club. The Fairbanks, Alaska, native led the team to three state championships and qualified 19 athletes to the Rocky Mountain Junior National Team. Of those 17 athletes, seven obtained All-American status a total of 33 times. Under his leadership, one athlete claimed a junior national title and another competed in two World Junior Championships.

“I’m really excited to be joining Michigan Tech and being back in the Midwest,” said Cork. “I’m looking forward to working with all the teams and transitioning to working with NCAA athletes. I’m hoping to help these athletes achieve their goals, both individually and as teams.”

In addition to his club coaching duties, Cork has served as a coach with USA Skiing working at both the Junior/U-23 World Championships and the J1/Scandinavian Cup trip.

Cork skied at Alaska Fairbanks and Whitman, where he claimed a national title in the one-kilometer freestyle sprint at the 2002 U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association Championships.

Cork will officially begin his duties on Aug. 18.
