More XC and Biathlon Results from Norway

November 16, 2008 (Beitostoelen, Norway) – For the third day in a row the racing has been fast and furious in Beitostoelen, Norway – the site of Nordic and Biathlon competitions. Familiar names stood on the podium again on Sunday. In the women’s race Marit Bjorgen continued to show her early season form as she won the 5km classic race in a time of 14:45.9. Behind her in second are third are perhaps Norway’s names of the future as 20-year old Therese Johaug was 6.8 seconds back in second, and 18-year Ingvild Flugstad Ostberg was third 22.5 seconds off Bjorgen’s time. The men’s 10km classic race was won in dominant fashion by Eldar Ronning of Norway with a time of 26:52.9. In second was John Kristian Dahl also from Norway at 22.3 seconds behind, and in third was Switzerland’s Dario Cologna 22.7 seconds back. Just seven seconds separated the 2nd and 5th finishers which included veteran World Cup Norwegian racers Anders Aukland in 4th, and Odd-Bjorn Hjelmeset in 5th. For complete results click here.

Biathlon Race Results
In addition to the Nordic competitions there was also a Biathlon event. The women competed in a 12.5km race and the men a 15km race. The women’s event was won by Tora Berger of Norway in a time of 37:38.4. Along with a brilliant ski she only missed one target standing. In second just 8.3 seconds back was Norwegian Solveig Rogstad who had no missed targets. In third was Liv Kjersti Eikeland of Norway 1:52.0 min behind with two misses. The men’s podium was again filled with Norwegians. In first with a time of 43:40.5 and one missed shot from prone and one from standing was Emil Hegle Svendsen, followed very closely by Frode Andresen at 1.9 second back, but with three misses. Lars Berger took third 45.1 seconds back and had a disappointing six missed targets. Complete results can be found here.
