February 13, 2010 (Stowe, Vermont) – Dartmouth won their Winter Carnival, even though the Nordic events were held on UVM’s snow. Lack of snow in Hanover forced the Nordic events back to the Trapp Family Lodge, in Stowe. Dartmouth won there last weekend, and had no problem winning there this weekend.

In Friday’s mass start classic events, Ida Sargent (Dartmouth) led the charge in the 15km (48m22s) followed closely by Caitlin Patterson (48m46s) from the University of Vermont and Dartmouth’s Rosie Brennan (49m07s). On the men’s side only the winner was a repeat with the University of Vermont’s own langlaufen specialist Franz Bernstein (56m56s) taking the win. St. Lawrence’s Benjamin Knowles (57m11s) stepped it up to second place while Middlebury’s Patrick Johnson (57m11s) took third.

Saturday saw the return of the relays. The women’s results weren’t surprising – Dartmouth 1 and Dartmouth 2 teams were just that – 1-2 – and UVM’s Caitlin Patterson (2nd on Friday) and Jennie Bender (4th on Friday) with teammate Caitlin Curran, nailed third place. The men’s 3x5km freestyle results saw Middlebury’s men’s team of Graham Egan, Dylan Grald, and Patrick Johnson finishing first with a comfortable lead of 21 seconds over Dartmouth’s O’Brien, Packer, and Koons. St. Lawrence put together an excellent performance for third place.

At the end of the weekend, following four alpine and four Nordic events, Dartmouth won the overall team score with  929 points giving them a 52-point margin over UVM (877points), with Middlebury in 3rd at 743 points.
