NENSA Camp Kicks Off in Lake Placid

release by Nensa.net
October 3, 2008 (Lake Placid, NY) – Half of the NENSA group arrived on Wednesday afternoon and the rest of the skiers will come in tonight. The OTC is full and a large percent of the athletes are Nordic skiers. It is a really fun place to be training this week! Yesterday we started off camp with an easy Double Pole workout to stretch out the muscles after driving to Lake Placid.

Today we joined up with USST skiers, as well as skiers from Sun Valley and the Midwest for an over-distance double pole. The terrain was varied and the distance just about 2 hours long with everyone doing a good job of keeping the pace easy.

The weather held for us and though a bit chilly, there was no rain. There is actually some snow in the forecast and we had a report from the OTC that while we were out training there had been some sleet back at the ranch. WInter is coming!

In the afternoon, coaches put the athletes through a challenging core strength workout and several explosive jump drills at the end of the workout. Thursday the NENSA skiers will join up with CXC to do a distance skate ski which will include speed drills, with an easy recovery run scheduled for the afternoon.

The camp roster looks like this; Tim Reynolds (Middlebury), Eli Enman (Rossignol), Adele Espy (Maine Coastal Nordic), Jennie Bender (UVM), Lucy Garrec (Colby), Sylvan Ellefson (Bates), Karmen Whitham (SMS), Matt Briggs (Colby). Coaches are Igor Badamshin (Gunstock Nordic) and Janice Sibilia (NENSA).
