NENSA Seeks Adaptive Programs Director

October 12, 2010 – NENSA is looking to hire an Adaptive Programs Director who is a self-directed, highly motivated, team player with a demonstrated track-record of working at a high-level in the sport of cross country skiing. The right candidate will be ready to have a huge impact on skiing in New England by building this brand new program for NENSA in support of its mission to implement educational, recreational, and competitive programs at all levels of cross-country skiing.

SUMMARY & QUALIFICATIONS: The Adaptive Programs Director directs a new program for disabled veterans in the Boston area and builds adaptive programming on a region-wide basis designed to attract new skiers of all ages to the sport; specifically clinics, camps, and travel opportunities, along with a coaches’ education curriculum. The director’s efforts will focus primarily on programs for veterans and their families. The Adaptive Programs Director works closely with NENSA’s Executive Director, Competitive Programs Director, Youth and Introductory Programs Director, Office Manager, Event Manager, committees, and board of directors to support projects contributing to all aspects of the mission.

The Adaptive Programs Director will work from a home office with frequent weekend travel in New England required. Residency in close proximity to Weston Ski Track near Boston is required for this position.  This is a full-time year-round position.

SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary depending on experience from mid-30’s to low-40’s. 3% Simple IRA Retirement Match. Medical Insurance options depending on plan chosen from $0 to $300 per month employee contribution. Monthly cell phone and internet stipend. Mileage and all travel expenses for approved travel are covered by NENSA.

This position is 100% dependent on grant funding to be renewed annual. The expected minimal commitment is four years. It is our hope that the program continues for a very long time.

Full Job Description – Adaptive Programs Director

Adaptive Programming
– Create and work with NENSA Adaptive Programming Committee
– Collaborate with other programs offering xc ski programs to adaptive
skiers
– Lead on-site clinics for athletes
– Minimum of 2x per week at Weston Ski Track
– Minimum of 10 other clinics/events at other locations in New
England
– Develop and implement new adaptive skiing initiatives
– Improve access to equipment
– Improve access to venues
– Improve access to events
– Work closely with VA Hospital Staff
– Primarily interface with Recreational Therapists at each location
focused initially in Boston area.
– Occasional meetings with administrative level staff and leaders to
promote program
– Assure that program meets needs and goals of VA recreational
therapy programs.
– Establish relationships with USOC Paralympics, US Adaptive Ski Team,
and FIS
– Gain professional development
– Assure that program is up to national standards of adaptive athlete
development

Coaches’ Education and Certification
– Plan Annual Coaching Conference
– Develop themes

– Prepare marketing materials
– Prepare site and logistical plan
– Develop and implement Plan for Adaptive Coaches’ Certification
– Prepare and collect coaching resource materials

NENSA publications and website

Shared Projects
– Contribute to team atmosphere.
– Support projects contributing to all aspects of NENSA’s mission
– Daily communication with other NENSA staff members via phone and
email.
– Minimum of twice yearly staff meetings and twice yearly Board of Director meetings.
