September 8, 2008 – The New England Nordic Ski Association’s (NENSA) Summer Rollerski series concluded on Saturday with a 12km race. Jesse Downs of Army WCAP won the men’s event with Jennie Bender from the University of Vermont taking the women’s race. Despite having the best time in the women’s event, Heidi Halvorsen (GMVS) – skiing almost two minutes faster than the rest of the women’s field – didn’t race on the matched V2 850 rollerskis and was not eligible then for the official win.

Newly hired NENSA Youth and Intro Programs Director, Abby Weissman had this to say about the event, “A great day! Lots of college skiers, a few good crashes, and plenty of blackflies to keep everyone on their toes. We gave away t-shirts to a bunch of skiers who had been at two out of three races and awarded an authentic pair of NENSA rollerskis to Austin Hart. The rain threatened on the horizon but held off for both races, keeping skiers and spectators happy. Many thanks to the skeleton crew of skilled volunteers that made this race run smoothly”.
