Neveplast – The Latest in Synthetic Snow

by skitrax.com
November 13, 2008 (Nembro, Italy) – It’s often said that the key to any athletes success is repetition, repetition, repetition. Not so easy for Nordic skiers who spend much of their training without snow. For years they have used rollerskis, or travelled up to remote glaciers where skiable snow remains year-round. While rollerskiing is a useful option there is nothing like the real thing, but glacier trips are expensive and often up at high elevations that limit training. A product first introduced by Italian company Neveplast in 1998 for the Alpine world could change all that.

“Neveplast Italia was born in 1998 thanks to the great enthusiasm for alpine skiing of its founders: Aldo, Edoardo and Niccolò Bertocchi. Production of the first ski pistes was started after having created and patented the first plastic material with the same slippery properties as snow.” Since 1998 their technology has been applied to Nordic ski tracks, snowboarding slopes and big air parks (used by skiers and snowboarders). Most recently, in 2005 a classic track for Nordic skiers was created.

“We produce plastic ski pistes that give you the impression of being on a carpet of compact snow. So you can carry on as you normally would on snow and practice your favourite sport (alpine skiing – Nordic skiing – snowboarding) anywhere using your usual equipment, without running the risk of damaging it. Skiing or learning to ski in the city with Neveplast is no longer a dream, in any area, large and small.”
