New Book Commemorates 100 Years of International Skiing

release by FIS
June 10, 2010 – The Antalya 2010 FIS Congress marked the centennial of the very first International Ski Congress that was held in Christiania (NOR, later known as Oslo) on 18th February 1910. To commemorate the first century of international skiing, a book entitled 100 Years of International Skiing by E. John B. Allen and Egon Theiner was published in time for the 47th International Ski Congress.

This book makes no attempt to be a complete history of our sport, but it was designed to give readers a taste of its colorful history. It is a trip through time, from the days of the International Ski Commission that evolved to the creation of FIS in 1924. The historical journey goes from Congress to Congress, from Olympic Games to Olympic Games and is a portrait of developments in sports science, techniques and technology.
