Night XC Skiing Options in Quebec

by John Symon
January 13, 2008 (Montreal, QC) – For working types who can only ski outside of business hours, here is a list of places in Quebec where you can go XC skiing at night as reported by La Presse:

Mount Royal Park near downtown has no lighting system, but reflected light from the city makes night skiing feasible on the 16km of trails. Trail access is free but parking charges ($5) may apply when parking near Beaver Lake. Parking on Park Avenue (near the George Etienne Cartier statue) is free, however.

Oka Provincial Park northwest of Montreal has 4km of the Pinède Trail lit by electric lights through March for both skate and classic skiing. Trail access fees (minimum $5/adult) apply (450) 479-8337 or 1-888-727-2652 www.sepaq.com

Mt St Bruno Provincial Park southeast of Montreal will permit access to its 35km of trails on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings starting January 15. There is a lighting system here, but La Presse recommends skiers also bring a headlamp. Trail access fees (minimum $5/adult) apply (450) 653-7544 www.sepaq.com

Quebec City’s Plains of Abraham also has a lighting system on its 15km of trails, but once again, skiers are advised to bring headlamps. SkiTrax understands that trail access is free. (418) 648-4212 – click here.

– Also near Quebec City, the Sentiers du Moulin in Lac-Beauport offers evening skiing on Friday and Saturday evenings by reservation. The website indicates that trail access fees of $12 per adult apply – click here or call (418) 849-9652.

Parc régional de Longueuil is another site not included on the La Presse list that’s just south of Montreal, with night lighting on about 6km of trails. A park representative told SkiTrax today that the current mild weather makes skiing currently impossible, but that the trails are light until 11 pm every night all year round and that access is free. The address is 1721 rue Adoncour, Longueuil, QC (450) 468-7619.
