by Peter Graves

October 25, 2010 (Acapulco, Mexico) – The IOC is delaying their decision on whether to include Women’s Ski Jumping at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi along with six other disciplines all awaiting approval to become full medal sports at the Games. The IOC’s board is meeting from Oct. 24-26 in Acapulco, Mexico and the decision was revealed in a teleconference call moments ago.

Deedee Corradini, longtime women’s jumping advocate and president of Women’s Ski Jumping USA said, “I’m taking this announcement as a win – it’s very favourable for women’s ski jumping.”

The IOC wants to wait until after the 2011 Nordic World Championships in Feb. in Oslo, Norway and will make the final announcement in March or April. The final decision lies with IOC President Jacques Rogge.

The other sports hoping for inclusion at the Games are Ski Halfpipe, Ski Slopestyle, Snowboard Slopestyle, Biathlon Mixed Team Relay, Figure Skating Team Event and Luge Team Relay – read more on this story here.
