Nordic Combined A Family Affair For The Servolds

provided by the COC

November 9, 2005 – In February, national team head coach Jon Servold (Devon, Alta.) will lead Jason Myslicki (Thunder Bay, Ont.) into Turin as Canada gets set to participate in the sport of Nordic combined at the Olympic Winter Games for the first time since Servold himself competed in the event in 1988.

While Servold may not be a household name around amateur sporting circles in Canada, Servold is THE name when it comes to the Olympic history of Nordic combined in Canada.

Heading into 2006, only four Canadians have ever participated in Nordic combined at the Olympic Winter Games. Of those four Canadians, three were members of the Servold family.

Back in 1988, Jon became the third member of his family to compete in nordic combined at the Olympic Winter Games after his father Irvin (1956 and 1960) and his uncle Clarence (1960).

Now with his competitive days behind him, Jon will continue the family Olympic tradition by guiding Myslicki to success in Turin.
