Nordic Junior Worlds 2007 – Sprints

Norway's Jacobsen and Russia's Ivanov Win!

March 13, 2007 (Tarvisio, Italy) – 20-year-old Astrid Jacobsen of Norway won the ladies sprint yesterday, the opening event at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2007 in Tarvisio (ITA).

Jacobsen is the 2007 World Champion having won the sprint at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo two weeks ago, successfully defending her 2006 Junior Worlds title.

Charlotte Kalla (SWE), 19 years old, who had two top-ten results in Sapporo, finished 2nd while 18-year-old Denise Hermann (GER) took 3rd place.

Last year, Kalla was 4th while Hermann finished 6th in the sprint event at the 2006 Nordic Junior Worlds in Kranj, Slovenia. Yesterday’s competition was held on a 1.3 km long sprint course in the natural park of Fusine near Tarvisio.

In the men’s sprint race, Ivan Ivanov of Russia took the honors. 10th last year in Kranj (SLO), Martti Jylhae of Finland was 2nd while Eirik Saeves (Norway) took 3rd.
