Paulsen was inducted for his significant contribution to the growth of the CSIA on a regional and national scale and for his lifelong dedication and commitment to skiing and ski teaching. As a CSIA committee member, Paulsen has been heavily involved on boards and various committees and has volunteered a wealth of time to adding value to the organization.
“Guy Paulsen is one of the most valued and respected contributors to the sport of skiing in Canada. His dedication and commitment to Nordic skiing has been evident from day one,” says Michael Sherwood, general manager, Silver Star Mountain Resort. “Anyone that Paulsen encounters can sense his immense passion for Nordic skiing and I am continually flooded with positive feedback from participants in Silver Star’s Nordic program. We are incredibly lucky to have him on our team.”
Paulsen has been a certified member of the CSIA for 30 years, during which he achieved his Level 4 and certifications in both cross-country and telemark disciplines. He also manages to dedicate time to the endeavors of the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors. As one of Canada’s top ski instructors, Paulsen has over 25 years of global teaching and coaching experience and has represented Canada internationally at numerous skiing events.
The Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance is a federally recognized teaching institution that trains and certifies ski instructors to serve its partners, which include ski schools and the Canadian skiing public. The CSIA’s National Hall of Fame is devoted to preserving the history of the organization and inspiring and encouraging the development of young instructors. Each year the CSIA recognizes enshrining heroes and heroines through its Hall of Fame in five categories; Founder, Builder, Special Contributor, Inspirational Leader and Honorary Level 4.
A strong advocate for Nordic skiing, Paulsen is an articulate spokesperson for the joys of winter and is regularly quoted in the media suggesting that Canadians stop running away from winter. Paulsen says, “Canadians need to embrace the winter and enjoy the benefits of all types of skiing. I love to watch what it does to people: their spirits are lifted, their cheeks are rosy, and they are inspired and uplifted. They are not just staring out the window waiting for winter to end. Believe me, I have seen skiing enrich lives.”
