April 08, 2010 – Skarverennet is a cross-country skiing race held in Norway since 1974, arranged by the club Geilo IL. The race begins in Finse and finishes in Ustaoset and is 38km long. There is an alternative stretch from Haugastøl to Ustaoset (26km). Skarverennet 2010 starts on Saturday, April 10.

Reason that makes Skarverennet special is that the elite skiers start several hours after the amateur racers have started their journey towards Ustaoset. When the elite group approaches the finish line they are cheered on by 12.000 participants.

“We have great atmosphere and a fantastic race this year. Snow conditions look good, and we got some new snow in the mountains at Easter” said Peter Rukke.

Many members of the Norwegian Cross-Country team will use a chance to enjoy spring skiing. Petter Northug, Odd-Bjoern Hjelmeset, Marit Bjoergen, Therese Johaug or Kristin Stoermer Steira announced their participation. Switzerland’s Dario Cologna plans to take part as well.
