November 19, 2010 – Petter Northug (NOR) has made the decision that he will not travel to the World Cup opener in Gällivare, Sweden, reports FIS Cross Country.

According to Norwegian National Team coach Morten Aa Djupvik, Northug’s legs are heavy and “he has not completely recovered … we do not want to take any chances.” There is still long lots of time before the World Championships, he added, “Therefore, we don’t want to risk anything at the beginning of the season in Gällivare.” Northug did not feel well at the Norwegian opening FIS races in Beitostoelen last weekend and left the competitions early.
