Obertsdorf, Seefeld Win Bids to Host FIS World Championships in 2018 and 2019

June 06, 2014 (Barcelona, Spain) – The FIS Council has elected the Organisers of the FIS World Championships 2018/2019 at the 49th International Ski Congress in Barcelona (SPA) today, 5th June 2014.

Oberstdorf (GER) and Park City, Utah (USA) were unanimously elected as hosts of the 2018 FIS Ski Flying World Championships and joint 2019 FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships, respectively.

The FIS 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships will be hosted by Seefeld (AUT), who took this honor in the third ballot with 9 votes ahead of Oberstdorf (GER) (8 votes.)

Are (SWE) was elected as the host of the 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. With 9 votes, it achieved the majority against its sole competitor Cortina d’Ampezzo (ITA).

FIS would like to thank all of the Candidates for their excellent bids and looks forward to working with the four appointed hosts in the lead up to 2018/2019.

Seefeld (AUT) gets FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2019

FIS is pleased to announce that Seefeld, AUT has been elected to host the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

The decision was made: On Thursday evening at the FIS Congress in Barcelona it was announced that the Nordic Ski World Championships 2019 will be held in Seefeld, Austria.

The FIS Council prefered the Austrian bid over the other three candidates Planica (SLO), Oberstdorf (GER) and Almaty (KAZ). Seefeld won in the third ballot with 9 votes ahead of Oberstdorf (8 votes).

“It was a team effort by everyone involved. We have a long journey behind us over the last ten, twelve years and to achieve that with the first bid is fantastic. We asked the Council to give us a chance to host them 2019 and I can promise that the World Championships 2019 will be organized enthusiastically and professionally”, said Markus Tschoner, CEO of Seefeld Tourism.

Seefeld already hosted the World Championships in 1964, 1976 and 1985 (1964 and 1976 the Olympic Games also counted as WSC). The last Nordic World Championships in Austria were held 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein.
